About Maui
Discover Maui's rainbow landscape of white, black, and red sand beaches, lush green landscapes and bamboo forests, and gorgeous blue skies with exploding colorful sunsets.
Getting There:
The main airport on the island is Kahalui (OGG) on the north side of the island and this is where all main flights come in and out of.
Getting Around:
You will definitely want a rental car on Maui. There are a few limo companies, cab service and a shuttle service there but they are few and far between and outside of hiring a private car and driver, public transportation is pretty much non-existent. Especially when staying in a private home, a rental car is a must-have for excursions, grocery shopping, etc…and how else are you going to visit that hidden waterfall or out-of-the-way beach?
About The Island:
Maui is called the Magic Isle…and there is something to be said about that. Fantastic beaches, wonderful restaurants, excellent golf, an array of activities for all ages and a true sense of Aloha can be found on this beautiful island. Maui is a favorite for many because you can do everything or nothing while on vacation here. Lahaina is “town” – it used to be an old Whaling Village but is now home to shops, restaurants, art galleries and a fun night out on the town. Get an ice cream and sit under the great Banyan Tree or get a burger at Cheeseburger in Paradise on Front Street and watch the people down below…For wonderful shopping go to Wailea Shopping Center and if you like to golf, the golf courses on Maui are exceptional. There is something for everyone on the magical island of Maui.
Beaches:
White sand, gold sand, pink sand, black sand, green sand…it can all be found on Maui. Pack a cooler, swimsuit and towels in the back of your car and go discover your own perfect beach. From the surfing beaches on the north shore to the white sandy beaches on the west shore there are lots and lots of wonderful beaches on Maui. All beaches in Hawaii are public so go find your favorite one!
What to Do:
There are so many things to do on Maui it is hard to pick favorites. A popular activity with our guests is watching the sunset while sipping a Mai Tai next to your pool at your villa. But for more active ideas, here are a few of our top picks:
- Downhill bike tour of Haleakala. It is well worth getting up at 3am to do the sunrise tour down.
- The road to Hana – pick up a cd at the gas station and you will have your own guide down this memorable road.
- For the adventurous, check out the longest zipline in Hawaii at Pi'iholo Ranch – thrilling!
- A hike to the Iao Needle in the lush and tropical Iao Needle State Park is a wonderful experience
- The Old Lahaina Luau is hands down the best Luau on the islands. If you are going to Maui this is a must!
- For new novices, a snorkel trip to Molokini is a great experience…be sure to do the morning trip.
- A Golfers Dream! Fantastic views and challenging holes provide excellent golfing on numerous courses
- Art galleries, shopping and restaurants galore in Wailea, Kihei, Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kapalua.
Where to Eat:
There are so many great restaurants on Maui it is hard to narrow it down. Mama’s Fish House is a must. It is about 15 minutes from the airport so it is a perfect start to your vacation and offers fresh local catch of the day on an amazing white sand beach. Aloha Mixed Plate offers great local food at an affordable price..and the view is great too! For the best Mac Nut pancakes anywhere, go to the Gazebo Restaurant in Napili…but ssh, this is a local favorite too so we don’t want it to get too crowded! If you just want a beer and a good burger or wings and excellent people watching, check out Moose’s on Front Street. But, for the more romantically inclined or you prefer a more refined fare with fantastic Pacific Rim Cuisine and wonderful views, both Canoes in Lahaina and Five Palms Beach Grill offer a great dining experience. And this is Maui so we cannot forget Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua where the best sushi on the island can be found.
