‘LUCCA’

Lucca is one of Northern Tuscany’s most beautiful towns with peaceful narrow lanes which wind among the medieval buildings, opening suddenly to reveal churches, tiny piazza’s, and many other reminders of the city’s long history, including a Roman Amphitheatre. The city still follows the pattern of the former Roman Colony founded in 180 BC. Great, solid ramparts, built in the 16th to 17th century, help to shut out traffic, making the city a pleasant place to explore on foot. Apart from the history and art in Lucca you may wish to enjoy a stroll along the Via Fillungo, Lucca’s principal shopping street which winds its way through the heart of the city, not only will you enjoy the shops many of which have Art Nouveau ironworks but also the deconsecrated church of San Cristoforo which dates back to the 13th century.
