Bachelor Gulch Winter Activity Guide
Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding
Spend an adventure packed day exploring the vast and varied terrain on
Beaver Creek or Vail Mountain. Every year, Beaver Creek Mountain
hosts the world as athletes and spectators alike migrate for the Birds of
Prey Men's World Cup. But that is only a slice of what Beaver Creek has
to offer. From the gentle, manicured slopes of Bachelor Gulch, to the
open intermediate trails of Larkspur and Rose Bowl, to the steep bumps
of Grouse Mountain, skiers and riders of all abilities will feel at home on
this mountain. Vail boasts three distinct areas of the mountain, each with
their own features and fortes, including four terrain parks, seven bowls
and 5,289 acres of freeride terrain. Take an interactive tour of the
mountain to really get a feel for the largest ski resort in the U.S.
A-Basin, Keystone, and Breckenridge are all accessible within 90 minutes
from the Vail Valley as well. Private and group ski or snowboard lessons
are available for ages three and up.
Nordic Skiing
Take a day to explore the beautiful cross country skiing areas. There's
something magical about being on the ground, yet breaking free from the
grip of the earth. There's magic with whisking silently though the forest
on a gentle downhill, little effort expended, very relaxing and exhilarating
all at the same time. Venture to one of the parks in Vail or Beaver Creek.
Also, feel free to request a private guided tour to really get out and
experience what nature has to offer.
Snowmobiling
Climb aboard for a fun filled adventure on your own Snowmobile while
exploring the National Historic Site of Camp Hale or the beauty of the
Gore Range. Tours include endless miles of open meadows and
spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of 4 surrounding mountain
ranges including the Continental Divide. Snowmobiles are available both
guided and unguided for single or double riders. Riders must be 5 years
old or older.
Dog Sledding
Glide through the snow on a sleigh pulled by a canine team and
experience the romance and lure of the Rockies. Travel silently through
scenic views as you experience the adventure of an ancient form of arctic
transportation. Whether you accept the challenge of driving your own
team or choose to relax and enjoy the scenery from the passenger seat,
dog sledding is truly a unique adventure that you will never forget. A
truly one of a kind mountain experience.
Snow Coach Tour
Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Continental Divide from the warmth
and comfort of a snow coach. A heated snowcoach is perfect for those
of you who want to enjoy the cold without being cold! Trails wind their
way through the White River National Forest at historic Camp Hale.
Enjoy the pristine beauty of the back country with majestic views of the
Colorado Rockies and the Continental Divide. Take plenty of photos and
relax while reconnecting with friends and family.
Snow Shoeing
If you're a hiker in the summer, then you're a snowshoer in the winter.
Indulge on snow shoes throughout the beautiful backcountry terrain in
Colorado. Snowshoe at McCoy Park in Beaver Creek or in Vail -we've
got so many trails to choose from. From easy to downright vigorous... all
in the wilderness, in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Arrange a private
tour with lunch and equipment included. Learn how to interpret the
abundance of animal tracks, and sneak in some wildlife viewing too!
Hot Air Ballooning
Soar high into the skies for a bird’s eye view of the Colorado Rockies.
This is the perfect way to see the mountains from a completely different
perspective. A balloon ride is great for a family outing or a romantic trip
for two. You can either do a full excursion or a taste of ballooning. All
trips include a post landing ceremony including a certificate and a glass of
champagne.
Adventure Ridge
Vail's Mountaintop Activity Center - play all day and well into the night
at Adventure Ridge Ride the gondola, slide down the tubing hill, race
around the snowmobile track (ages 6 – 12 years), snow shoe, show your
skills at orienteering, play laser tag, jump high on the rebound
trampoline, ride a ski bike or simply have a drink or some food and take
in the spectacular views.
Ice Skating
Twirl and swirl your way around the Beaver Creek Ice Rink. Wonder
around the village, shop, have some food and a drink simply sit back and
relax after a day on the slopes. Skate rentals are available on sight, or
bring your own!
Fly Fishing
Yes, you can fly fish in the winter and the fishing is excellent! We have
some exciting winter locations to wade and float fish within a short drive
from Vail and Beaver Creek. Guided trips are offered including
equipment and transportation.
Thursday Night Lights
Hosted weekly throughout the winter, Thursday Night Lights is a glow
stick ski-down to music with a fireworks display afterwards. Guests who
are level 5 skiers (intermediate) or above can participate, simply register
at 5:30pm on Thursdays at the Beaver Creek Children's Ski School.
Performing Arts
The Vilar Center in the heart of Beaver Creek has a fantastic array of
shows to whisk you away from reality. Performances include jazz,
classical music, comedy shows, musicals, a circus, ballet and dance to
name a few.
