Chateau d'Atx - P231 Provence

Enjoy total privacy and serenity in this magnificent 17th century, 11 bedroom chateau in the South of France.

This superb, elegant, 17th century chateau is located just 7 km north of the charming town of Aix en Provence. St.Tropez (90 minutes) and Avignon (45 km) are within easy driving distance. Although the property is not located in town, it's a fifteen-minute walk to the village of Puyricard, and a three-minute trip by car.

The chateau has been completely updated to today's comfort standards, while maintaining its Old World charm and history. It is decorated with a mixture of formal and casual French antique furnishings. Within the park-like setting is a 12th century tower and a large 16th century chapel (158 m2), which can be used for weddings, costume balls, or concerts. The property enjoys spectacular views of Mont Ste Victoire.

The spectacular heated swimming pool (11x 6m), built in 1998, is set amidst the ruins of the palace of the Archbishop Jerome de Grimaldi, who held court at the property from 1655-1685. The swimming pool, open from mid-May to mid-October is not fenced. In addition to the pool and chapel, there is a very nice tennis court. The well-kept garden (about 12 acres) includes a pine forest, and lovely terraces for entertaining. The outdoor area is equipped with good quality garden furniture. There are three to four parking spaces on the grounds.

Maid service is included in the price, 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. Additional maid service, the services of a cook, babysitting, and mountain bike rentals can be arranged.

Ground Floor: The main entrance, with original painting by Florentine painters, is on the west side, and it opens onto a large hall. To the left of the entrance are the library, drawing room, laundry room (washing machine and dryer), and staircase (with lift). To the right of the entrance are the main salon, fully equipped kitchen and the dining room, which is richly furnished and features valuable artwork. The spacious terraces on the east and south side of the chateau overlook the large grounds.

First Floor (access by elevator): The bedrooms have been named for famous French artists. The master suite is Henri Mattisse, and it has a queen bedroom with an en suite bathroom with tub, separate shower, and WC. The Marc Chagal bedroom is twin-bedded with an en suite bathroom with shower and WC. The Paul Cezanne bedroom has a queen bed and an en suite bathroom with tub, separate shower and WC. The Renoir bedroom has a queen bed with tub, separate shower and WC. The Van Gogh bedroom has a standard double bed with an en suite bathroom with tub and WC. The Gauguin bedroom has a standard double bed and a bathroom with tub and WC.

Second floor (no elevator access): The bedrooms on this floor are not as luxurious as those on the first floor. The Edouard Manet bedroom with a standard double bed, and the Claude Monet bedroom has twin beds. They share a bathroom with tub and WC that is next to the Monet bedroom. The Edgar Degas bedroom with a standard double bed also shares the same bathroom, which is across the hall. The Henri Rousseau bedroom, which has a standard double bed and the Toulouse Lautrec bedroom, which has twin beds, share a bathroom with tub and WC (between them). On the same floor is a billiard and TV room.

Basement: There is a wine cellar for tastings, a small dance floor, a sitting area, and a bathroom with shower and WC. The amenities include: maid service, central heating, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, telephone, Satellite TV (with CNN and/or BBC), CD player, stereo, piano, fireplace, Internet access, and fax machine.
