l'Eveque - P029 Provence

This very charming and typical Provencal Bastide is located in the authentic village of Luberon and is for 12 people who are truly fond of the Provencal lifestyle.

It is a magnificently restored 18th century Priory located just near the church, set in the heart of one of the Luberon’s most charming medieval villages, Cabrières d’Avignon. The village is a sleepy place, a perfectly preserved cluster of honey-coloured houses and dry stone walls, with narrow winding streets, fountains, original washhouses and a 12th century castle (now privately owned) with a bloody history. The village shops, a baker, excellent butcher and a grocer are a 2 minute walk from the house as is the excellent village restaurant. There’s a second restaurant a 10 minute walk away.

Cabrières is the most perfect location from which to explore the highlights of inland Provence, with many attractions being within a half hour drive. The Roman cities of Arles, Avignon, Nimes, St Remy and Vaison la Romain are also within easy striking distance. There are daily markets, including antiques, and a summer season of fetes and music/opera festivals all nearby.

This sunny south facing property has an attractive garden complete with original features such as an old well, stone table and garden statues against a backdrop of the 16th century church in the adjacent square. There is a fenced swimming pool (approximately 10 x 5m, depth 1m to 2m), and several delightful garden areas designed for ‘al fresco’ dining. Large high ceiling rooms with tasteful antique furniture, original tiled floors and authentic wooden ceilings give this house a very special atmosphere. Its warm colours and style are slightly reminiscent of a Tuscan property but the charm of its garden, pool area and the surrounding village are typically French and very Provencal!

Ground Floor

Entrance hall with very beautiful stone staircase, open plan living/dining room with stone fireplace with a table can seat 14 people. There is a desk with Internet, a well equipped kitchen with Smeg cooker (gas hob, electric oven), dishwasher, and microwave, and laundry room with washing machine, dryer, fridge/freezer and extra sinks and a separate toilet.

Bedroom Details

  • First Floor (split levels) : Small balcony overlooking the square of the village church.
  • 6 double bedrooms, 2 with en-suite shower rooms, 1 with en-suite bathroom with hand held shower head, up 5 steps, 1 with own bathroom with hand held shower head, down 3 stairs to 5 WCs. The two other doubles share a bathroom accessible via one of the bedrooms (ideal for a family). 1 of the double rooms has access to its own small patio which overlooks the pool.
  • As the rooms are large it would be possible to add a rollaway bed for a second child as long as the total occupancy does not exceed 10-12 people.

  • Maid service included 2 hours at mid week and 4 hours on Saturdays
