Vigna Mascalisi Sicily

Vigna Mascalisi is a little one bedroom house located on the slopes of Mount Aetna.

It sits in the shadow of "the giant of fire" - the highest active volcano in all of Europe. The house is part of an estate that has a biological farm, little restaurant and a small bed & breakfast (3 rooms). Here on the estate one can purchase extra virgin olive-oil, Doc wines, vegetables, fruits and other delicacies that have been harvested on the property.

The house has been thoroughly covered with lava stones blocks and it is harmoniously set in the mild hilly landscape of the Aetna. It is surrounded by the vineyards, olive-trees, oaks and dried low walls. Natural materials from the area have been used to create the bio-architecture of Vigna Mascalisi: the chestnut-wood of Aetna shows up as in the beams of the roof as well in the beams of the doors and of the windows; the reeds of the river Simeto catch the eye in the ceilings while the terracotta and the Sicilian ceramics can be seen on the walls.

The living-dining room with sofa bed merges into the kitchen corner where there is a shelf made out of lava stone from Mt. Aetna. The same stone was used to make the shelf of the sink in the bathroom. The natural dyes used in the linens in the double bedroom embellish this room with a touch of sober elegance.

OUtside the wide terrace and the tiny private garden invite you to enjoy your relaxation and idleness.
