La Fleur sur la Mer - BWH St. Barts

BWH is certainly one of the most beautiful colonial properties of St. Barthelemy, with an astonishing 270° view of the sea and a garden of 12 000 m2. An exceptional location and… an exceptional house.

First of all there is the majestic and mysterious entrance with a driveway winding through the trees taking you up to the top of the hill. A stepped entrance path leads into the villa, boarded by small cascades paved with stones where water runs clearly and refreshingly over a carpet of pebbles. Here you find a second surprise: a magnificent Japanese pond around which the villa has been designed. The atmosphere is fresh, light, bold and above all, total privacy reigns. Built around two “gaiacs,” a protected species of tree on the island, this property, located on the very top of the hill, succeeds in blending perfectly into the environment of Saint Barthelemy. Effectively, the land was completely leveled in order to build this wonderful property on one single level, which consists of a succession of small houses. Their only common denominator is the large Japanese central pond with its water lilies, reeds and the surrounding magnificent tropical garden. The architecture hence enhances the unbelievable location of this property and its panoramic 270° view of the ocean and all of the neighboring islands : St. Kitts, St. Eustatius, Saba, St. Martin, Anguilla, etc…. The choice of materials reveals and accentuates the strong colonial mood of BWH: the bottom part of the villa’s walls are built of grey stone from St. Barthelemy, wood dresses the concrete structures, the walls, the roof and the parquet floors. Not forgetting the colonial furniture predominantly designed and crafted in St. Barthelemy by an artisan cabinetmaker and made from finest mahogany, in particular the beautiful Colonial custom-made beds exclusive to this residence. Authentic antique pieces perfect the harmony of this property: desks, pottery, statues, game tables, day beds, large mirrors, renovated chairs upholstered in fabrics from Kenzo, tropical style paintings of fish, butterflies, plants and tropical flowers from the Beame collection etc. The overall picture is of elegance and remarkable refinement. The tableware of the dining room has been designed according to the palette of colors used in a painting by Hannah Moser: hand painted crockery by Patricia Clos and large orange and indigo Chinese pots, the same colors as the Kenzo fabrics of the chairs.
