Batterie St. Lucia

Overlooking the most spectacular 180 degree view in the Caribbean, and situated on 1.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the exclusive Anse Chastanet area of Soufriere, this 3 bedroom luxury villa offers complete privacy.

Overlooking the most spectacular 180 degree view in the Caribbean, and situated on 1.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the exclusive Anse Chastanet area of Soufriere, this luxury villa offers complete privacy in secluded gardens. Tropical swimming pool with cabana, lily pond, orchid gardens and spacious decks, lounging chairs, and hammocks overlook breathtaking views 300' above the sea.

The villa is constructed of native stone, teak and mahogany, cooled by ocean breezes and ceiling fans. 3 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a cabana sleep 6 - 8 in 3 kings and 1 double. Single beds are also available along with a crib. The cabana sleeps two, but we would recommend they be of the teenage variety. The elegant terra cotta tiled living and dining rooms face the sea. A 40' open teak deck overlooks the majestic Pitons, and two bedrooms open into a tiled indoor courtyard where you can informally dine. Each of the master suites has a private bathroom and a flagstone deck surrounded by fragrant flowers, humming birds, lemon, lime, grapefruit, mango, papaya and banana trees. The fourth bedroom is a sleeping loft. The pool side cabana sleeps two. This villa is now equipped with WiFi internet access.

La Batterie (The Fort) was the patois name for the estate. Local legend suggests the presence of an old fortress on the site, but this has not been verified and it is more likely that the name was chosen because of its situation on the cliffs and its commanding view of the sea and trade routes.

The villa is on one and a half secluded acres. The house was built in 1972 and has been owned continuously by the present owners for the past 25 years as their private residence. The villa is protected on three sides by high walls of hand cut stones hauled from a nearby river, and the fourth side overlooks the sea.

The owners have made every effort to maintain the Caribbean tradition and open style of construction. The villa walls, which are up to 3 foot thick in places are also cut from river stones and the supporting beams, decks, louvres and doors are made from Caribbean sources of tropical hardwoods including mahogany, teak, and green heart. The house has been continuously updated and the kitchen was completely renovated in 2006

The gardens have been professionally terraced and landscaped by the owner, an internationally known tropical botanist. Earth for the gardens and lawn has been trucked in to supplement the thin volcanic soils of the area and many of the plants and orchids are not found anywhere else on the island.

Batterie Reviews

Back this week from a fabulous vacation at Villa Batterie in St. Lucia and I wanted to relate to you what a great time we all had. The Villa was beautiful and definitely met our needs, the view of the Pitons was world-class, but the best amenity of all was the Villa staff. Cynthia the cook / housekeeper, Marilyn the maid, Terry the gardener, "KK" the night security man, and last but not least, Clavie the driver, were all wonderful. They were accommodating, informative (answered all our questions about the island, etc.), and generally made our stay a lot more enjoyable. When we departed, we felt we left some new-found friends behind. We all look forward to visiting St. Lucia again some day.
