The Jewel

Belize is, simply, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Only in Belize can you find verdant rainforests teeming with wildlife, the Northern Hemisphere’s largest coral reef system, over 200 miles of gorgeous beaches, and some of the world’s most fascinating Mayan ruins. Ideally situated between the jungles of Central America and the Caribbean Sea, Belize contains a staggering amount of both cultural and ecological diversity. African, Asian, European, Hispanic, Mayan, and Caribbean cultures can all be found in this stunningly gorgeous country, also home to over 500 species of fish and over 570 species of birds.

Nestled in your Belize luxury villa rental, surrounded by turquoise-green seas and lush emerald forests, you’ll understand why locals refer to Belize as “the jewel.” You’ll have a blast hiking, zip lining, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving to your heart’s content – keep your eyes peeled for howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans, turtles, sharks, and sting rays. Our luxury villa rentals in Belize take full advantage of the area’s natural beauty with beachfront locations, freshwater pools, secret gardens, complimentary kayaks, and more.

Beaches

Thanks to its Caribbean coastline, Belize boasts miles of picture-perfect beaches with powder-white sand, clear waters and shady palm trees. We offer a variety of beachfront rentals, meaning sun, sand and relaxation will be right in your backyard.

Ambergris Caye is a qiuiet, relaxing island just off of Belize’s mainland. Snorkel along the barrier reef, home to abundant marine life, or simply enjoy a swim in the calm waters. Near Ambergris Caye is Caye Caulker, a popular beach spot perfect for strolling along the sand and catching some rays in a laid-back atmosphere. Placencia, located on the mainland, is a quintessential tropical beach paradise: lazy barefoot bars, long, white stretches of sand and turquoise waters.

Activites

The diverse terrain in Belize makes for incredible adventures, from spelunking and mountain biking to horseback riding and hiking. It’s also a world-class destination for snorkeling and scuba diving, thanks to the reef, three mid-ocean atolls and crystal-clear water for perfect visibility. Belize is a well-known fishing spot for anglers and fly-fishing alike, with plentiful tarpon, snook and bonefish up for grabs. Several of our Belize villa rentals offer tennis court access, so you can practice your strokes just steps from your private home.

This globally renowned 18-hole Caye Chapel Golf Course is set on its own island, just a few miles off the coast of Belize. During play, enjoy spectacular views of jade seas, impeccably manicured links and the barrier reef.

And, you can try an evening outing unique to Belize. The sky is perfect for stargazing, as Belize is sparsely developed and has a low population density. There's also nighttime diving. The dazzling coral reefs come alive in an entirely different way at night, as many creatures are nocturnal. For scuba diving enthusiasts, this is a don’t-miss experience.

Things to See

A visit to Belize wouldn’t be complete without exploring Mayan ruins – archaeologists estimate that there are over 600 significant Mayan sites in Belize with likely hundreds more undiscovered. Climb large stone temples, crawl through excavated tombs, and navigate through hidden caves filled with relics of ancient ceremonies.

The Caves Branch River Cave System is a vast network of caves – one of the easiest and most exciting ways to explore is by canoe, kayak or inner tube.

The Great Blue Hole, part of the Belize Barrier Reef System, is a circular, underwater sinkhole is an incredible spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. Dive into crystal clear waters to meet several species of fish and small sharks.

The Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary in Northern Belize is home to beautiful wildlife, like the endangered jabiru stork as well as crocodiles, iguanas and howler monkeys.

Entertainment

Belize is home to a range of local, authentic entertainment options. While on a vacation to villas in Belize, make sure to experience the world-famous Chicken Drop – a gambling game that involves placing bets on a board of 100 numbers, and chicken who picks them at random (yes, really).

Attend a festival, such as Carnival or the annual Lobster festival, or check out a local theatre production, which occur primarily in Belize City. For more live entertainment, check out the happy hours at many hotels in the area. They’re famous for offering a fun way to mingle with locals, as well as enjoy cultural dances and music.

Venture into Belize City to try your luck at the biggest casino in the area, the Princess Hotel and Casino.

Shopping

If your favorite pastime is shopping, you’ll find plenty of fun frequenting the small shops and boutiques for arts, crafts and jewelry made by Belizean artisans. In San Pedro Town, near many of our Belize villa rental properties, you’ll find a variety of interesting and colorful shops. Hit markets of Belize City for Mayan-inspired jewelry and authentic stone and wood carvings.

Belize is also well known for its delicious chocolate, coffee and locally made hot sauces, so make sure to take home a taste of your vacation. Be on the lookout for a bottle of Marie Sharp’s – whether it’s the renowned hot sauces or fresh, all natural jams and jellies, these Belize-made products are the best of the best. If you’re seeking out a luxurious gift or treasure, shop the region’s rare and beautiful conch pearl jewelry.

When to Go

Belize’s high season, from November to late April, coincides with chilly winter temperatures in the U.S. and Canada, making it a perfect warm-weather or holiday escape. If you’re planning your Belize villa rental for this popular travel time, be sure to make your reservation in advance. The off season runs the risk of rain, though typically only brief, afternoon showers.

Travel Tips

  • Make sure to arrange transportation from the airport to your Belize villa beforehand. That way, you can start relaxing from the minute you land.
  • Keep in mind that sunscreen can be very expensive in tourist destinations. Pack your own to avoid overpaying.
  • Depending on your group, decide if you’ll want to rent a car or if you will book excursions including transportation and rely on taxis to get you elsewhere. Both options are just as easy on a vacation to villas in Belize, but it helps to plan beforehand.
  • Gratuities in on Belize villa vacations go a long way – tip your staff well, not just at the villa, but when you’re out and about as well.
