Sweeping along northwest Italy in a narrow ribbon along the coast, Liguria is a quaint, glamorous region that attracts jet setters looking to relax in luxury. Many of our Liguria villa rentals are located in or near Cinque Terre, a breathtaking stretch of the Italian Riviera, and in Genoa, a city known for its ancient churces and Renaissance-style palaces.
Stay in a restored farmhouse in Cinque Terre and swim and sunbathe on its string of beautiful beaches, explore the surrounding villages, hike trails that hug seaside cliffs, and stroll along cobblestone streets filled with picturesque architecture. Enjoy the breathtaking views of vineyards, olive groves, and coastline and indulge in the local sweet wine, sciacchetrà. Genoa, Christopher Columbus’ birthplace, is a mix of sophistication and history — a vibrant city with many historic gems waiting to be discovered. Villas in Liguria are perfect for those looking for a relaxing vacation combined with rich, fascinating culture.
Located along the Mediterranean coast in Northwestern Italy, Liguria is well known for its cuisine, quaint country style and – of course – stellar beaches. Yet, while laying out on the coast can be a great way to spend the day, more adventurous vacationers may want to hike the coast to gain a truer sense of what the area entails.
One of the best treks in the region is the Cinque Terre, an 11-mile hike from the scenic village of Riomaggiore to the seaside community of Monterosso al Mare. Both towns are well worth exploring in their own right, thanks to their classic architecture and gorgeous surroundings, but taking the time to explore the stretch of land between them is a wonderful way to spend a day.
The pathway will provide unbeatable views of the staggered cliffs that fall in the Mediterranean, the rolling hills of the inland countryside, and a number of small villages along the way; and when you get tired of walking, simply hop on a train back to your starting point.
