Be sure to spend the day at spend the day in L’Isle sur la Sorgue. This village, once the center of the Provencal silk trade, is crisscrossed with lazy canals, wool and paper mills, and is alive with moss-covered waterwheels that once drove its silk trade. The charming valley town retains its gentle appeal, except on Sundays when it transforms into an open-air market, with vendors selling anything your heart desires, from French clothing and linens to fresh fruits, cheeses and vegetables. Many have said this is the third largest antique market in all of Europe. You can also just sit and relax in one of the many cafes, taking in the crowd and listening to the strolling musicians.
