The Best Barbados Beaches for Every Activity

Barbados is known worldwide for its fantastic selection of gorgeous beaches. Follow our guide below to find the best Barbados beach for surfing, swimming, picnicking, and more.

Barbados is known worldwide for its fantastic selection of gorgeous beaches. Barbados is a limestone-coral island, which means that its beaches are made from finely ground coral, resulting in clean, soft, often pink-tinged sand.

Each part of the island provides something different: the calm west coast is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, the lively south coast is great for more adventurous water sports like kite surfing, the windy east coast is a surfer’s paradise, and the north coast offers dramatic cliff views for picture-perfect picnics.

While most of our villas in Barbados are located on the western and southern coasts, it’s easy to explore the entire island by car. And with the Barbados “Pick Your Perk” Special, you could even receive a complimentary rental car during your stay! (Other options: a complimentary catamaran day cruise or free grocery pre-stocking.)

Follow our guide below to find the best Barbados beach for your vacation activity of choice.

WINDSURFERS

Silver Sands Beach on the southern coast is recognized as one of the world’s best windsurfing beaches for its ideal conditions, especially during the winter months. In fact, the Barbados Waterman Festival, a worldwide watersports competition, is held on Silver Sands Beach every February.

SNORKELERS

Mullins Bay Beach on the west coast is a popular for its calm, clear water, perfect for the beginning snorkeler. Mullins Bay offers plenty of facilities, including a beach bar, restaurant, and sea trampoline for kids, so the entire family can spend the day relaxing and having fun.

BODY SURFERS & BOOGEY BOARDERS

Crane Beach is considered to be one of Barbados’ most beautiful beaches and was named “one of the ten best beaches in the world” by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Situated between rock outcroppings on the southern coast of the island, this long, light-pink beach features moderate waves perfect for body surfers and boogey boarders.

SURFERS

For the island’s very best surfing, head to the “Soup Bowl” at Bathsheba Beach on the east coast, where local and international surf competitions are held. Foamy surf and large swells make for great waves, and the rugged landscape – dotted with giant coral rock formations – adds to the exhilarating atmosphere.

SWIMMERS & SUNBATHERS

Bath Beach is one of the safest and calmest swimming beaches on the east coast of Barbados, and as such, is one of the most popular spots for or swimming and sunbathing. A short stroll north of the beach will bring you to a small waterfall and the remains of an old railroad line.

PICNICKERS

Bottom Bay Beach on the south coast of the island is tucked away between high coral cliffs and shaded by palm trees, providing a perfect atmosphere for a relaxing picnic. The undertow here can be strong, so swimming is not recommended, but the beach's breathtaking beauty should not be missed. It’s off the beaten path, too, so you may be the only group enjoying the view!
