5 Tips for Your Summer Trip

Follow our checklist for summer travel prep, from finding the right accommodations to packing.

It’s time to plan your summer getaway. Before you click “book” on your trip, take a look at our summer travel checklist. Not only can we help you find the perfect destination and place to stay, we’ve also got tips from our team to guide you through the planning process so you can stress less and anticipate more!

Turks and Caicos

Planning a beach vacation? It's hard to beat Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos, consistently voted one of the best beaches in the world.

1. Pick the right destination.

If you haven’t already, be sure to carefully consider your destination. What place will best fit your needs and personality? Looking to experience the bright lights and buzz of a big city? Try New York or Paris. Thinking about more of a beach getaway? Grab your sunnies and head for the Caribbean or Mexico. Adventure-seekers will love Costa Rica, Belize, or Utah. Food and wine lovers should focus on Italy or France. And for maximum family time, Florida, Hawaii, and the Caribbean are great options.

2. Find the perfect villa.

There’s a villa rental in our collection for everyone – let us help you find yours. If you’re bringing the little ones, choose a villa with amenities for babies and kids, like toys, cribs, and bunk beds. For those planning a honeymoon or trip for two, we’ve got secluded properties with private beaches and spa access. Reunion time? You’ll find sprawling estates with 10+ bedrooms and large entertaining and living spaces.

And that’s just the beginning. When you call to book, an experienced Villa Specialist will help you select the perfect villa, whether you’re planning a golf getaway, girls’ trip, anniversary celebration, or want to bring your pet. To get started, browse all villas or search villas by region

With eight bedrooms and gorgeous vineyard surroundings, Villa Leila in Tuscany is a perfect summer spot for familes or food and wine lovers.

3. Plan ahead.

Sounds simple enough, but we’re not just talking about making reservations. Don’t wait until the last minute to think about the details.

  • Visiting another country? If necessary, renew your passport (and those of your fellow travelers), and apply for Global Entry to ensure an easy arrival back home.
  • Book a car rental or car and driver in advance.
  • Take the stress out of your airport arrival by arranging for fast track service (available in select destinations).
  • Book local tours and excursions before your trip. This way, you won’t risk missing something because it’s sold out, and you’ll have one less thing to worry about while you’re on vacation.

We’re here to help! For these last three bullet points, you can rely on the assistance of your personal Villa Concierge, included with every villa booking. They’ll help you arrange these details and more when you book your villa.

4. Get travel insurance.
Make your trip even more relaxing by protecting your travel investment with insurance. We recommend LeisureCare Travel Protection, which will cover you in case of unexpected events including trip cancellation, baggage loss, medical assistance, and more. See our description of coverage for all the details.

5. Make a list of what to bring.

And start now, so that as you think of things, you can jot them down. Here are some summer travel must-haves to get you started:

  • Sunscreen. Obvious, yes, but it’s best to purchase it in advance, since it can be more expensive in many vacation destinations. Same goes for bug spray.
  • A carry-on bag that can be used for the beach or other daily outings
  • A light sweatshirt/jacket, in case it gets cool
  • Flip-flops or slippers
  • Reusable water bottle (Stay hydrated!)

When it comes to clothing and accessories, check the weather closer to your travel dates so you can determine exactly what you need.

Happy summer travels!
