Vacationers already know that they can enjoy opulent accommodations by renting villas in Italy. Yet, while these stunning homes are sure to sate a traveler's desire for luxurious lodgings, architecture enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of the classical stylings of the renaissance by heading to the immaculate Palazzo Ducale, or Ducal Palace.

A UNESCO World Heritage site located in the city of Urbino, this towering palace is a towering achievement of Renaissance architecture. The palace was the vision of famed Italian designer Luciano Laurana, who was tasked with building the new castle for Duke Federico III de Montefeltro.

Building the new structure atop the existing Palace of the Jole, the architect reimagined the castle as a grand monument to refinement, with towering archways, columns and spires that reach well into the skies.

Design of the palace was taken over by Francesco di Giorgio Martini in 1472, who added ornate flourishes to the existing façade that help set this castle apart from others in the region.

After spending a day exploring these opulent accommodations, you can return to your luxury rentals to reacquaint yourself with more modern comforts and design.
