The gate opens onto the Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, with Kailua-Kona, its harbor, coffee farms, and restaurants a short drive south. Kona International Airport (KOA) is close enough that the first swim can happen the day you land. This leeward stretch stays sunny when the rest of the island clouds over.
