Narlita
Europe / Italy / Amalfi Coast
Long before Positano became a byword for postcard beauty, its own people were leaving it behind.
Overview
By the mid-1800s, hardship had emptied more than half the village, as fishermen and farmers sailed for New York in search of a future the cliffs could no longer give them — many of their descendants still return each summer to the streets their great-grandparents fled. It was only in 1953, when John Steinbeck wandered these same lanes and confessed in Harper's Bazaar that Positano “bites deep,” that the world began to look back. Even the town's name carries a myth few visitors ever hear: legend holds that Poseidon founded it in honor of Pasitea, a nymph he loved, and her name still runs through the village today as Via Pasitea, the steep main street every visitor will walk.
Along this road stands Villa Narlita, a historic residence where thoughtful design meets refined comfort in every corner, and where the original charm of both the interior and the grounds have been carefully preserved rather than replaced. Though set in one of the town's most sought-after and central positions, the estate keeps its guests entirely to themselves — an intimate refuge for those who want to experience the true spirit of Positano without ever giving up privacy.
Living Spaces
Villa Narlita unfolds gracefully across three floors, thoughtfully arranged to welcome up to twelve guests in effortless comfort. Every room is bathed in the natural light of the Amalfi Coast, its interiors dressed in hand-finished ceramics and fine materials that reflect the timeless character of Positano.
Lower Level
Guests are welcomed into a spacious and bright and inviting living room with a clean, contemporary Mediterranean aesthetic, featuring a comfortable sofa, crisp white furnishings, colorful accents, and elegant arched architectural details. A relaxed and stylish space for gathering and unwinding.
The lower level is anchored by a bright, elegant Mediterranean-style kitchen featuring crisp white cabinetry, a central island with bar seating, and beautifully patterned ceramic tile accents. An arched opening leads to a charming dining area, creating a distinctive blend of contemporary comfort and traditional character. This room opens onto a private terrace, blurring the line between indoors and out — the perfect setting for long lunches beneath the Positano sky.
Outside Features
A spectacular sea-view terrace overlooking the dramatic Amalfi Coast, with a shaded pergola, elegant outdoor seating, and a large dining table—an exceptional setting for alfresco dining while enjoying the breathtaking coastal scenery. An enchanting private lemon grove adds a touch of authentic Positano charm, while an ocean-view salt-water infinity pool (4 mt x 8,5 mt x 1,2 mt) offers an unforgettable vantage point overlooking Fornillo and the iconic Positano skyline. The pool is covered and heated from October through March. Together, these outdoor spaces create an extraordinary setting for relaxing, entertaining, and savoring the beauty of the Amalfi Coast.
Special Characteristics
Narlita ranks among the very few villas in the area that guests can reach by car all the way to the front gate — a rare convenience in a spot where most properties are approached only on foot — with roughly 60 steps then leading down to the residence itself. The town's smart boutiques, restaurants, and beach lie just below, reached along Positano's characteristic old stepped lanes, the scalinatelle.
